We’re excited to announce that the new version of the OpenX ad server has arrived.
OpenX 2.6 builds on our existing open source ad server to offer some great new features to help you take control of the advertising on your websites and make more money online, including:
- OpenX API - Save time by automating common tasks and linking OpenX with other systems.
- Faster ad tag - Deliver ads faster and reduce your server load using the single page call ad tag.
- User management tools - Control users permissions and log all trafficking activity.
And that’s just the start! You’ll also find new ad targeting options, UI improvements and much, much more.
The new release has already been fully translated into 11 languages by OpenX community, including Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Slovenian and Spanish, with more translations on the way.
To help everyone take advantage of these new features, we’ve also created a new step-by-step guide to upgrading your ad server.
This has been a huge community effort and we’re thrilled to have your support to make this possible. Our thanks go out to the hundreds of community members who helped develop new features, resolve bugs and get this release ready for launch today.
Download OpenX 2.6 and get started today!

Today marks an important day in the history of OpenX, and perhaps looking back on it in a few years, even the internet advertising industry. The OpenX team today launched version 2.6 of their flagship product. It’s been a long development process…

¿2.6 or 2.4.8?
Comment by Francisco Mesa — July 22, 2008 @ 10:36 am
Hi Francisco
OpenX 2.6 is the new stable release but we’ll be providing patch releases for 2.4 like the security patch (v2.4.8) released on Monday.
We’re encouraging people to upgrade to the new version since it has better performance and new features. I think you’ll find it easy to upgrade if you decide to.
cheers, Oliver

How, if at all, does this affect the OpenX hosted version?
Comment by John — July 22, 2008 @ 4:20 pm
Hi John
OpenX 2.6 is our open source product. We use the same code base for hosted version of OpenX but we release things on different schedules.

Hey OpenX Developers?
Is the “Block adclicks for x seconds after click” form version 2.0 availible again in version 2.6? This one is essential for Pay per Click deals.

We’re planning to add that feature but it’s not there yet unfortunately.

I second that feature. We’ve been getting a ton of discrepancies on our OpenX click reporting.
Comment by Dave — July 23, 2008 @ 6:17 pm
looks great! Is this going to be put onto the hosted openx as well?
Comment by Matt — July 23, 2008 @ 6:45 pm
Hi Matt
Yes! Hosted and the downloaded product are based on the same codebase. The new user permission system is an example of a feature we added to improve our beta hosted solution and so is available in OpenX 2.6 too.
cheers, Oliver

Hi Dave
The feature in question might help but I think it might be worth digging deeper to understand the cause of your problems.
If you want to explore this further, create a thread on the forum and send me a link (oliver at openx.org).

Not long ago, I transferred some domains and sites to others who converted them to advertiser link sites. Now I would like to do the same with my remaining inventory of comparable domains, but do not know where to begin.
Here are three domains that I transferred. Would someone be kind enough to tell me if these sites were subsequently developed using OpenX ?

OpenX can track clicks on flash ads.
Infact its been around for long time.
Have you gone through the flash ads tracking bit from manual ?

A new version of PhpAdsNew / OpenAds / OpenX ?
Well guys, I think it’s great that you are continually enhancing the product but personally I dread each new release - I do not doubt that you make genuine, useful enhancements every time - but what I see evey time so far is this: My sites are written in XHTML strict, and each new release requires me to choose between using the software and accepting that my sites will fail the W3C validator, or play search and replace to find odd bits of html that aren’t part of the xhtml standard buried in the code of OpenX. Please tell me that this time you’ve chosen to include some options for people who choose to use XHTML, such as a set up option where you can state HTML / XHTML.
Comment by Michael Ball — September 4, 2008 @ 11:03 pm
Hi Michael
Thanks for the feedback. We went through a process to ensure that the tags generated by OpenX is XHTML compliant but it’s possible there are bugs. Could you email through some details of the compatibility issues reported, perhaps we can fix the problem and make your upgrades easier.
The OpenX forum would be the best place to continue this conversation. Please post a new thread there if you’d like to investigate this further with us.
